About Us

Stone Hound Brewing Company sits on the eastern shore of Grand Traverse Bay in Acme Township, just outside Traverse City. We opened because we believed northern Michigan deserved a brewery that took both its beer and its food seriously — without taking itself too seriously.

Our beer is brewed in-house with care and a genuine point of view. Our kitchen turns out real food — not an afterthought. Almost everything on our menu can be made vegan or vegetarian without sacrificing flavor, because we think good food should be for everyone.

Come for the view of the Bay. Stay for a pint and a burger. Bring your friends, your family, or just yourself. We have pinball, live music on occasion, a patio when the weather cooperates, and a crew that's glad you're here.

We're growing too — a second Stone Hound location is coming to Traverse City later this year. Same beer, same food, same commitment to doing it right. Just closer to town.

This is a place worth coming back to. We hope to see you soon.

Our team

Brent Faber, Owner & Founder

Brent didn't take the obvious path to owning a brewery — which is probably why Stone Hound turned out the way it did.

He studied Business Management at Adrian College, then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo College of Law and passed the Michigan Bar in 2010. Instead of practicing law, he followed a different instinct — moving to Traverse City, falling in love with the area, and eventually finding his way behind a bar at a local startup brewery in 2012. A decade of craft beer later, he decided to build something of his own.

Stone Hound is the result — a brewery that takes its beer and food seriously without making you feel like it does.

When he's not at the brewery you'll find Brent mountain biking, cross-country skiing, hiking with his dogs Rollo and Lucy, home with his cat Ope, or doing "research" at other local establishments. He holds a strong opinion that northern Michigan is one of the best places on earth to live, and he's not wrong.

Chris Cargill, Head Brewer

Chris came to brewing the long way around — through psychology research and digital marketing — which might explain why his beers tend to make people feel something.

He started homebrewing in 2013 and got serious about it fast. By 2015 he was in packaging at Short's Brewing Company, and it didn't take long before he was brewing production batches. When the opportunity to build a brewing program from scratch at Stone Hound came along, he took it.

That was the right call for everyone involved.

Chris runs the brewhouse with a focus on quality and a willingness to experiment. The result is a tap list that has something for the craft beer obsessive and something for the person who just wants a really good beer on a Tuesday afternoon.

Outside the brewery you'll find him running, mountain biking, camping, or somewhere in the woods with a hammock and no particular agenda.
